What we do
We are a charitable organisation supporting children, youth education and women small business start-ups projects (overseas) and listening to hear (listening ear) services (UK).
Our vision is to enhance children education by promoting literacy at an early age, targeting primary schools. Owning a library and encouraging children to read during and outside of school hours is a fantastic way to help to stimulate cognition, interest in learning and improve writing skills. We are passionate about driving this cause forward. We take pride in higher education. We help youth on their journey to further education. Our goal is to help sponsor one youth per academic year if they qualify after interview.
We run 'send a youth to university programmes' and in September 2023 we were able to start the ball rolling. We sponsored a youth to study international Relations at the Milton Margai Technical University, Goderich, Sierra Leone. The course will run for four years and on completion, the youth would like to work with NGOs as a diploma. Her mother is a single parent, whose mainstream of income is through petty trading and cannot afford to pay the fees. To start school is one thing and it is good, however of what value it is if education is curtailed? For many in the third world, education is a safety net, and it supports crime prevention, early and unwanted pregnancies, reduces poverty, health and economic inequalities.
Our first pilot project began in 2019 as a library project, known as ‘The Lioness Children’s Library Project’ run under ‘Hope and Voice.’ It was set up in the rural outskirts of Freetown, Sierra Leone (Goderich Village). There, a school library is non-existent and by setting up one, it would help to strengthen the educational system for children aged 5-11 years old. A school library is vital as it provides a haven for a child to grow, think and become creative.
We are currently working with the Goderich Primary School. Since its inception, the library is in constant use, the children are excited about learning and are doing better in their exams, particularly in reading and writing.
We are excited about running these projects. Empowering someone brings out their hidden skills and talents and it is great opportunity for them to shine, grow, develop and become confident. It is about teaching life skills but in a different way, their way not our way. It is about creating independence and not dependence, monitoring progress and providing mentoring support.
This is a one off individual funding, to help support a project of choice to help generate income to pursue a business.
